Ligia Profile
I have 17 years of musical education & training and I have been teaching music and piano for almost 12 years. I offer piano lessons for beginner and intermediate students through The Piano Place store, across the street from White Flint Mall in North Bethesda. I vary the techniques and teaching approach based on each student's needs. For my younger students, I use special methods, combined with my favorite exercises, crafts and games, to create an attractive and fun lesson format. I usually divide the lesson into time periods, each with its own activity - this helps the younger children stay focused and motivated. Lessons are $99 for 4 half-hour sessions. The 1st lesson is FREE!

Doodlerz Profile
Doodlerz Inc. is committed to the enhancement of children's lives through supplemental education. My goal is to enrich the lives of students who are falling behind in school and to challenge those who find school to be too easy or boring. Wherever your child may fit in this spectrum there is something for you at Doodlerz Inc. I started Doodlerz Inc. because as a licensed school teacher, I was tired of seeing school children "falling through the cracks." I myself was a "doodler" in school. At a young age and all throughout college I found myself bored and doodling on my notebooks rather than paying attention and taking notes. I did turn out to have a knack for doodling, but the traditional schooling never challenged me enough. Children doodle in class for two reasons; either the lesson is too easy or it is too hard. Working as a full time school teacher, I found that there isnt enough time in the school day to cater to each childs individual and specific needs. That is where children fall through the cracks. The really smart children are not challenged enough, and the children falling behind are not taught the basics that they need to catch up. More and more these days, supplemental education is becoming necessary. Parents are willing to take this extra step to ensure their childrens futures. The one-on-one interaction that a child gets from a tutor is priceless. In private lessons, a teacher can individualize her teaching to one child. This is where real learning takes place. This is what has drawn me to tutoring.

Ms. Lauren Hanna Profile
My name is Lauren. I am going into my second year at California State University Northridge, but I am a junior. I was able to skip my entire freshman year due to taking a lot of advanced placement tests and testing out of my first year of music. I am a Music Composition major, but I am unofficially double majoring in Media Composition (CSUN won't let students double major in the same department). I have been playing piano for eleven years now and play everything from jazz to classical, rock to ragtime, and pop to showtunes. I have also sang for thirteen years and was classically trained, but i sing a wide variety of genres. I received the highest grade in both music theory classes I took last year and was one of the top students in ear training. In regards to composition, I recently was privileged enough to have one of my orchestra pieces be performed for an audience of 200 at a concert at CSUN. I have also just finished scoring (writing music for) a pilot of a comedy show which has been pitched to Comedy Central. As you can tell music is a major part of my life. I have taught people in the past, mostly friends and family, but now I am moving to the Northridge area and would like the chance to teach others in that area.

Brittany Porter Profile
Hi! My name is Brittany and I'm an aspiring writer and educator who's just officially moved to NYC. I graduated from a liberal arts college this year, with a completed publish-worthy Honors thesis (on ADHD, its history and quasi-neurology). I love to teach have many years of tutoring and teaching experience, both formal and informal. I've worked as a teaching assistant for four high-need high school classes, and this year Im working toward my secondary certification. If you're looking for someone patient, down-to-Earth, funny (but down-to-*business when we need to be), who can put you at ease with the material, look no further. I am comfortable and have ample experience with kids of all ages, from 2 to 92, from your second-grade child who needs a boost with her reading to the high schooler whose trigonometry just ain't sticking, to the adult nursing student who needs help with orgo. I would also be glad to help with writing and editing papers and conducting basic academic research (MLA anyone?). I love working with LD folks (I think of us as quirky learners more than disabled ones&), or just taking anyone who's feeling frustrated and overwhelmed and bringing it all down to size for them. At the risk of sounding like a jack-of-all-trades, I'll say that I have comfort and experience with the following subjects, should you need assistance with any (or all?) of them: * MATH: All levels through pre-calculus: basic arithmetic, ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY, TRIGONOMETRY/PRE-CALC, (I'm re-teaching myself Calculus now, so I make no guarantees with calculus proper.) Also well-versed in basic STATISTICS: Excel, number-crunching, theory, experimental design and set-up, etc. * SCIENCES: My specialty is BIOLOGY, especially genetics, neuroscience, evolution and ecology. But if you're struggling with ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, you really should come see me: it is one of my favorite subjects to tutor precisely because I believe it's taught so badly most of the time (hint: orgo is not at ALL about memorization!!). I'm also comfortable with the intro chem curriculum, but please look elsewhere for physics as my background there is scanty. * WRITING/English/Editing: I'm a poet, linguist, and essayist in my spare time, and one with a deft editor's touch. I would love the opportunity to help folks with their writing, as despite my gifts as a writer I know what a hell writing issues can be. Even the most arcane, technical academic writing can feel like delicate subjective stuff. When I look at others' writing however, I see it in a very different light: I clarify structure, syntax, and phrasing with ease and efficacy. No matter where you're at, I'd be happy to assist. * BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE SPANISH: Should you need a native speaker for advanced or really intensive work, I'm not it. I'm only semi-fluent, and very rusty with my vocab after lots of years. What I offer for the introductory students among you is a keen ear for pronunciation (Native speakers point it out) and a firm grasp of Spanish flow, conjugation and syntax: I get how the language works and can 'translate' it for you. Oftentimes native speakers or those that are fluent (unless they also happen to be great teachers) can't break things down for a beginner the way that I can, because it's harder for them to 'go back' to where you're at. I've helped dozens of my classmates pass their Spanish classes... or just understand that one grammatical thing they didn't get. This is because I am also a grammar geek and can cogently explain, for instance, transitive and intransitive verbs (ie., why we need those los and las after certain verbs, which to us native English speakers sound so out of place, and why this is only one role the --los and --las can play.) I also have you practice what we do outloud, right there, so it starts to roll off your tongue, too. * TEST-PREP (SAT's, ACT, Regents, GRE, subject tests&): I hate standardized tests as much as you do. But I do well on them, I 'get' their logic (even if it's a stupid logic) and I hold no secrets sacred. I scored a 1480 on my SAT's (back when the max score was 1600), six years ago. I'm available immediately, for summer finals or brush-up before Fall. September/October scheduling welcome, too! I'm flexible as to location and am willing to come meet you wherever you are most comfortable: your home, your school, local library, this great café you love, whereverbut our initial meeting should be somewhere public. I'd also prefer to stay within Brooklyn or Manhattan; anywhere far out of the way will come with stark conditions. My rate is $30 an hour. Negotiable ($20-25) if you want to schedule more than two hours a week, or if you are a single/struggling parent going back to school, because that means you rock. Block meeting times (ie., 4-6 hours in one shot) could also qualify for a discount, if that's how you roll. Can't wait to hear from you, and GOOD LUCK with your studies!!

Misuzu Kitazumi private piano studio Profile
Offering private piano lesson at Vernon, CA and Sherman Oaks, CA. Http://learnpianola.com Specialties I am good with private lesson, Group lesson, Harmony Road method, Alfred music for little Mozart series, Bastien, Piano adventure, Certificate of the Merit, and all the other major piano teaching method and systems. Beginners will concentrate mainly on basic techniques and sight-reading. When they reach the next level, intermediate students will be instructed on interpretation, tonality, as well as more sophisticated techniques along with sight-reading. At the advanced level, students will be encouraged to attend classical concerts to broaden their understanding in playing styles. This experience would lead them to learn higher-level interpretation, rhythm control, more of intricate techniques. A more comprehensive feedback system such as Certificate of Merit and student recital will also be provided to guide the student to a higher level. Personality I am positive and encouraging teacher. I love to laugh and have a good time with students. Also, I am patient and understanding teacher. Every student moved their own speed and my job is to bring out their best. I believe that through the process of learning a musical instrument and performing, students develop self-confidence and motivation that will be truly beneficial in life even if the student decides not to pursue a career in music. Studies have shown that students who have musical aptitude score higher in standardized tests. Musical appreciation is a lifetime journey that evolves through time and it is my utmost goal to share this passion with my students. Strength My patient, reliability, my love and care for students. My passion is teaching. My expertise is in teaching mathematics. In 2004 I earned a the highest credential for teachers, the National Board Credential, for Mathematics Grades 6-12. Mr. A. Bowen Profile
Hi, I am a college senior in B.S. Biochemistry. I am able to teach high school-level and some college-level mathematics, and as well some physics concepts, on fairly short notice. I have very little actual tutoring experience--I have only taught people to play music (specifically, the drums, and I am still available to do this!), and the sessions were informal. Still, I am a good and patient helper, and I am very excited about the opportunity to teach and to get people interested in the subjects that I love! I tutor one-on one, which is probably the best method. I can meet clients at their homes, or at the local library or other "neutral" location. The pay is negotiable, but would typically be $15/hr. If you have any questions, email me at bowena@duq.edu. Take care, Austin Bowen

Brooklyn Profile
Hi, my name is Brooklyn. I graduated high school in 2005 with an Academic Honors Diploma. I was also inducted into the National Honors Society in 2005. I took honors and AP English classes, and worked my way up to Trigonometry (I am pretty rusty in this area though, so I'm not really comfortable tutoring math above a basic Algebra level). I also played the flute for 7 years, so I am very fluent in music. I cannot instruct others on how to play other instruments, but I can help those with trouble reading music, etc. I also took French for 4 years, and while I cannot say I am fluent, I can still remember quite a bit of what I learned. I have never been an actual tutor, but I have volunteered at elementary schools where I was basically a teacher's aid. I have also always helped friends and classmates with homework. I don't believe in feeding answers to students. I strive to help them actually understand what they are doing, so they can use that information in the future. Currently, I am working towards my associate's degree at Indiana Business College, and I think this would make a great part-time job for me. I am very passionate about helping others, and I will work to the fullest of my abilities to help as many students as I possibly can.

I have not forgotten my connection with music and continue to play and teach it in addition to language (primarily English). Hello... I was born and raised in sunny southern CA, but I am a French-Canadian descendant. Growing up, French was the first language in the home since most of my family speaks it. My conversational French is better then the written, but having taken some French courses on Saturdays while growing up, & all through High School, I do well in written too. As for my piano skills, I was fortunate enough to have parents who gave me the great opportunity to take 7 years of lessons. I cannot play by ear, but I do know how to read music notes and can offer some guidance to beginning students. Fur Elise is my favorite piece to play.
