Dr. Bob Biswas Profile
STATEMENT OF TEACHING PHILOSOPHY Teaching is really my passion. I feel this teaching passion can best find fruition in an urban setting. Students in an urban environment reflect those that have been forced to experience practical life experiences early in their lives and those that are struggling with lack of an economic advantage. Both of these student groups will benefit from a teacher who has a blend of experiences in real life and is fairly academically grounded. These types of students will need guidance understanding concepts explained to them within the context of real life. And I have had many real life experiences, which can be readily converted into class situations as part of class work, cases exercises and examples that will support the educational content. This is how I have taught in the past with great success. In other words I thrive in an educational environment that provides the student an education along with life skills which all of them will need as they grow up and face the world. On top of it, I have written a career column in a local ethnic newspaper, which was focused on helping young people understand the practical aspects of work life. I have also conducted College admissions counseling seminars and workshops geared towards high school seniors as they enter college. I know how to relate to young people. The core of my philosophy of education is to inject real life examples and stories as much as possible – relate the material to every day life. Whatever theory or concept is being taught, it needs to be peppered with actual, practical examples so that the concept being explain comes alive. I am uniquely positioned to do this because over the last thirty eight years I have been there, done it and seen it I am a passionate teacher whose sole desire is to motivate all students to reach the truest extent of their potential. This I learnt from my father who taught in India for over fifty years. My educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that educational institutions should concentrate on their core focus – the students – and creatively dedicate themselves to enhancing educational standards within the practical constraints of financial and political realities. Creativity, enthusiasm, dedication and a positive “can do” attitude will do the trick and create educational “magic” in the classroom. Finally, I am sure you will find that I do possess a wealth of life experiences (including the early death of my only son, who died of a rare genetic disease in his final semester in college), which has made me very sensitive to all types of people with all types of backgrounds. There is no doubt in my mind that because of my many personal experiences, teaching and professional experiences as a consultant and executive, I can be a true mentor to all who cross my path as a teacher. Comments from students Dr. Bob, So I woke up in a cold sweat last night. The reason being is that I just remembered that I forgot to attach my resume to my Career plan paper. I know its late now, but I figured that I would try and squeek it in. If you just wont accept it, thats fine, I know that I tried. I wanted to thank you again for a great semester. I really learned quite a bit from you. It was most enjoyable. I will be in touch in the future, as I hope you stay in touch. We still need to head out to the golf club sometime. Thanks again Dr. Bob, I thank you for your time and a great semester. I really appreciate you stepping in and taking over the class. I feel that I have learned a tremendous amount in such a short amount of time. I also appreciate your willingness to help students outside of class. I will be contacting you shortly to let you know that I have submitted my application to PwC. Thanks again for all your help and have a great vacation. Here is my project. I appreciate that you let me turn it via email. To be honest, your class brought the most insight to the actual real world of business. Like you said when you first came to class, sometimes changes happen, and how you perceive the change is how you look at change. To me, your class was a change in the right direction. Again sorry for the inconvenience. hey Dr. Bob this is DR from your HROB 101 class i sit in front everyday, anyway i was e-mailing you to tell you that i enjoyed your class and learned a lot of information that i will use in the future. i know my test scores weren't the greatest but i don't think that reflects what i learned and i don't really care about grades. anyway i thought i would let you know that in my business career i will keep in touch with you and let you know how i am doing. this career project has really opened my eyes and i think it is an excellent project. anyway i will keep in touch and thanks again. sincerely, DR Thank you Dr. Bob for all your help and support. We enjoy having you as a professor, we have learned so much from you. Hello Dr. Bob, i just wanted to thank you for a good semester. I appreciate your work to actually teach us something. I fell all to often we, students, do get to caught up in what we are doing and lose sight of why we are doing it. Thank you for everything.

ms. holly homan Profile
As mentioned above, I have vast experience working with special needs. I try to make learning fun by using humor and telling stories. Although I can get "silly" to gain a young child's focus, I am very creative in bringing that "silly" into control to focus on the task at hand. This is very effective in children who are otherwise "unmotivated"
I have extensive experience working in an academic environment with a variety of special needs students. This includes Autism/Aspergers, ADHD, Dyslexia and other learning challenges. I have worked for 9 years with Seattle Public Schools as a special ed instructiona assistant. I am not, however, limited to spec. needs. I tutored for three years in an after-school homework center and have recently been working with a "typically developing" 8th-grader who just needs supervision to get her work done. I have worked with ages kindergarten through high school. My specialty is in reading, writing and spelling.

Mr. Allen Slea Profile
Students have difficulty reaching their goals for one simple reason: they lack a solid foundation in reading, writing, and math. Public schools are forced to move students along at the pace of the curriculum, rather than the pace of the individual student, and as a result, many students are left behind. As time goes on, their grades slip, which causes their confidence to fail. This creates a vicious cycle of failure. PRO Tutoring is here to give your child hope, and break that cycle. We begin with a free standardized test and consultation, where your child’s current ability and future goals are discussed. A plan of action is then drafted to help your child reach his or her goals. At PRO Tutoring, we believe in building upon success. Once the child is working at a level where he or she can do well, confidence improves. As confidence improves and basic aspects of the subject are solidified, we are able to move on to more complex topics. The final result is a student fully prepared to face the challenges of their educational level.

Ms. Jadine Wong Profile
I am a college graduate of University of San Francisco with a finance major. I have been working as a tutor for over 4 years with children from Pre-K to high school in writing, reading, vocabulary building, spelling, grammar work, and math. I love to work with children because I believe in progress and goal setting, also with character building. I do currently work a full-time job at Bank of America, but I was just wondering when you would want a tutor to come to help your child build their math and reading skills. My starting rate usually starts between $20-$25/hr. I do have other students that I have been working with for over 2 years, I do provide them help with their homework, projects, and papers. I also assign daily/weekly homework to enhance their own skills if not taught in school and reinforce the ones they are learning or already learned. Note: If you are interested in me tutoring your child, please indicate what grade level he/she is in and what level the child is advancing at. For example, "My child is in the 2nd grade but is more at a 3rd grade level." Also I able to tutor at your house or at a local library. In the future I may start group lessons where the rate will be cheaper, so please let me know if you are interested in that. Also if there there is a bridge I will need to cross, that will be added to the payment, but not an increase in the hour rate.
I have experience teaching kids for over 4 years in reading, writing, math (basic, pre-algebra, algebra 1,2, and geometry), phonics, spelling, and grammar. I can also work with science and history in the lower grade levels.
