Speller Tutorial Services Profile
Math tutor and licensed math & computer science teacher that wants to help students of any age. Let's get to work. Many people struggle because they don't know the basics (fractions, decimals, factoring, 1 and 2-step equations, integers, & simple multiplication and division). Let's work on the areas where you struggle and build your confidence. Don't struggle through or "just get by" another school year or college semester. Together we can take your skills to the next level. My style is simple. I use technology, common sense, practical examples, humor, and patience with a "no quit" attitude. Stefano Campagna Profile
Background: After several years in this line of work, I have tutored toddlers, middle-aged adults, and every age group in between those two extremes with ever-increasing success. I really enjoy tutoring as it is a flexible, part-time job that allows me to help many students grasp the material they are just learning at school or reviewing for the first time in years. Although I had only started working with established organizations in the past 6 years, I have tutored students privately on my own since I was in high school. My interests are in mathematics and the sciences, but I also engage students that have trouble reading, writing, and even, speaking English. I also am native Spanish speaker, so I have had the opportunity to help many students through a high school or college level sequence of Spanish. The progress and rapport I have developed with my students has been independent of whether the student was struggling in class, simply needed to practice problem-solving or conversational skills, or needed to review for Advanced Placement Exams. Regardless of a students initial stance, once I am aware the material that needs to be covered, I am able to customize individual lessons around the students needs. Sample: For example, when I work with students in math, chemistry, or physics problems, I first review the theory in order for them to grasp what objects we are studying. Simply plugging in to formulas means nothing if you do not know what their purpose is. When possible, I want students to appreciate the material for the sake of acquiring new knowledge prior to delving deeper into the subject. Then, after working out several examples either from the book, lecture notes, or my own experience, we would tackle larger assignments or go over previous test results. I occasionally give extra problems for them to work for future sessions, and we would go over these at our earliest convenience. I also tend to present students with different ways of visualizing problems, with drawn-out, symbolic, or more abstract examples. Notice: As a side note, some students have a hard time realizing that a noticeable improvement may take more time and effort than what they originally wanted to commit. I keep reminding these students that practice and dedication will reward them in the end and that initial frustration is normal. They need encouragement and motivation, but they also need to work harder to reach their goals. Others actually do not need to be tutored for as long or often as they planned because all they needed was some guidance or a refresher before an exam. These students are sometimes blessings because their improvement is obvious after the first couple of lessons. Schedule: At this point, I would like to mention my main reservations with tutoring. As a full-time graduate student, my schedule currently permits only private tutoring work from Friday to Sunday. Although day-by-day exceptions may arise, I am generally not available to tutor during the week as my own schoolwork takes a considerable amount of time. When I tutor privately, I normally have to drive to a students residence, and between driving, traffic delays and anomalies, and parking, I may lose up to three hours of time just to arrive at my destination to tutor for 30 minutes. I have had parents schedule last minute sessions for next day exams, even late at night, but I advise against that. I prefer working on a regular weekly, or biweekly, schedule with each student and have at least a ninety minute buffer to reach my next student. Given individual circumstances and my own changing schedule, I am very willing to have flexible meeting times on given days. That being said, I would prefer a 24 hour notice of whether a session needs to be cancelled or rescheduled for later in the week. I have had to charge my full hour fee for frequent last minute cancellations that cost me several trips. Conclusion: I am willing to travel to Weschester County, western Long Island, and any of the 5 boroughs of NYC. Below I have provided my relevant professional experience working with both schools and large tutoring companies. Please feel free to contact me for more information. As a student looking for a tutor, your first priority should be finding a tutor who can connect with and listen to the student, knows how to teach from experience, and has a deep understanding and knowledge of the subject matter. You should also look for a tutor that is highly motivated and puts your goals and interests first. The tutor should have an understanding the problem from the student's point of view. The tutor should also have a positive and light-hearted personality that is easy to get along with, so the student is motivated to study more and gain interest in the subject. Sandy Eulitt Profile
What makes me different from other tutors? Training is one thing, I think. I've attended Engineers as Educators workshops and specialized 2 day training workshops on how to teach math and science classes. Using experience from a student's life, I am able to leverage their existing understanding to incorporate new concepts. I had a 4.0 GPA when I took courses up through high level college math, physics, chemistry, astronomy, rocket science, and computer science for my degrees. I also put student safety first, and never allow young students to be alone anywhere. If a parent is late, I will take the student home.

Alex Stein Profile
As a certified professional tutor and UCONN graduate with a BS in Physiology and a BA in philosophy, I have tutored thousands of students in over 50 subjects (9 years or +10,000 hours). I have experience tutoring and teaching students of all ages and cultures, attending schools such as public grade schools, Gateway Community College, SCSU, UCONN, Yale University, and Choate Rosemary Hall. Tutoring elementary school students means making learning fun and interesting in order to cultivate a life-long passion for learning. Middle school students are a favorite to tutor. At that age, students learn about themselves and start to think about possible vocations. So, tutoring these students doesn't just mean restating seemingly useless information. It's about character building, sharing wisdom, and allowing them to feel comfortable and passionate about learning. I enjoy tutoring High School students by developing their critical thinking skills (necessary for success in college). Finally, I have always excelled with the rigorous demands of college courses and always have loved sharing my practical guidance and quick tips to current college students. Because teaching is a passion for me, I make learning fun, enjoyable, and practical. I love seeing personal and academic growth in my students. If all you want is to pass your next exam or course, then I love making these students less stressful and more successful. My favorite subject to tutor: Organic Chemistry!

Kelly Holman Profile
I love learning and love helping others learn! My tutoring style focuses on understanding concepts, not simply getting the right answers. This emphasis improves retention and helps students apply their knowledge to new problems. I teach a variety of memorization techniques, but if the student understands a process or formula, memorization is often unnecessary. Whenever possible, I use hands-on exercises, manipulatives, and exploration to help students visualize abstract concepts and discover principles for themselves. Rather than giving answers easily, I ask questions to lead the student in solving problems. I am patient and have a talent for explaining technical information to non-technical people. Learning can be hard work at times, but I strive to make it exciting and rewarding.

I work with each student to help them find their unique way to understand and master the material. Miss Patty Weber Profile
This is what one local parent wrote. "Patty came highly recommended to us from a friend. She worked with both my children during all three grades at Newhart Middle School, sixth, seventh, and eighth. The subject areas covered Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. With Patty's help, both of my children were better able to understand the material presented during class times. She was able to explain the math concepts in ways to which my boys could relate. Their grades improved with her help. Patty was also flexible with scheduling and generous with her time." -Bonnie S. Mission Viejo, California For most subjects I ask the student to prepare for tutoring bringing to the table his or her textbook, workbook, or paperwork, past assignments or tests or quizzes, identifying sections needing explanation and review. I also ask the student to bring blank paper, pencil and eraser, or pen, and in some cases three by five note cards. My typical approach is to discuss areas where the student is struggling, then review samples in the book, and I take the student through the problems step-by-step clarifying terminology and if necessary, reviewing foundational concepts to help the student better understand the information. I help explain and review then ask the student to show the work of the concept we reviewed. Often we will work through problems in the book that have answers at the back, testing the newly gained knowledge of the student in the same session. My approach caters to each individual based on an intuitive approach, identifying how each student learns, whether by word pictures, tools for memorization, repetitive examples and working through problems or other. In some cases I ask the student to obtain a specific book (for guitar, and computer keyboarding). Another student wrote: "Patty Weber offered her service to me as a tutor when I was in high school, struggling with the math portion of the SAT. Academically, I have always had trouble with math, I cannot grasp the concepts as quickly as others. Patty adjusted herself to my needsshe did not merely drill the equations and concepts, she taught me with diligence, patience, and compassion. Even though my answers were often wrong, she took the time to show me each step again until I understood. After her tutoring, I took the SAT for a second time, and my math score rose over 200 points (an impressive increase by normal standards). Patty's help was vital to my high school career, without her tutoring I would not have been accepted into as many colleges and my life would not be the same." -Madison R. La Mirada, California (was tutored in Mission Viejo, California). Note regarding hours and rates, earlier hours available on weekends, and daily afternoon hours can be flexible. You're probably trying to find a tutor who stands out from the rest. You're looking for someone who knows what she's teaching. Abigail's qualifications: She graduated from the Georgia Tech with a degree in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Economics. She went through college at an accelerated pace of 3 years instead of 4. She earned the National Merit scholarship through her exemplary SAT scores. She was a HOPE scholar all the way through her college career. Her tutoring experience: She's been tutoring for over 4 years in many different environments that include one-on-one tutoring in-person and online, as well as tutoring in a group environment. She can adapt to many learning styles. Not all students learn alike, and sometimes creativity is the key! She has taught over 50 students in the past four years! Abigail was recently the Tutor of the Month for Tutor.com! "I just wanted to thank you, I got an 86 on my final, roughly 20 points above our class average, and was able to maintain my grade. I couldn't have done it without you. Thanks so much!" - 11th grade Precalculus Student "Abigail explains things clearly so that I would understand. She makes jokes to help me learn things... In total, Abigail and I are like two peas in a pod!" - 10th grade Writing Student "Wow! I just enjoyed almost 3 hours of learning algebra! Yes, enjoyed! I feel more confident about my midterm after my tutoring session. So with lots of chocolates and mints, tomorrow I will pass my midterm!!! Thanks to the greatest tutor ever, Abigail!!!!" - Returning to College Algebra Student If the above sounds like somebody you want to learn from, just let her know!

Raymond F. De Hont Profile
I received my PhD in chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University and have been tutoring high-school to college level students in Science, Math, and Writing subjects for over 10 years. While working towards my undergraduate degree in chemistry at Ursinus College (small liberal school on the east coast), I also minored in physics and received training as a writing fellow to assist students with written assignments. I have worked in a variety of tutor/teaching settings, including one-on-one private tutor sessions, group study, recitation instructor for high school and college students, and as a laboratory teaching assistant. Thanks to these different experiences, my teaching style is very adaptive and easily adjusted to the learning needs of the student. Having been a private tutor for some time, I have helped students overcome test anxiety, find unique solutions to homework problems, better understand general concepts, and prepare for upcoming standardized exams (AP, SAT/ACT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT). This has led to better study habits, and increased understanding of the material for the student, and higher grades/test scores in general. After studying science/math related fields for the last 10 years, I can certainly help those struggling with how to approach or view these difficult types of problems. So whether you are a student struggling through a particular course or someone preparing for an important upcoming standardized exam, I can help you reach your academic goals with personalized tutoring sessions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Christine Terry Profile
Hello, my name is Christine. I have plenty of experience tutoring since I began in 2001. My tutoring experience includes tutoring individuals and groups at the K-12 and university levels. When I started tutoring, I was tutoring friends of mine in high school, and it was then that I knew I wanted to help others learn new things. Once I started college, it made sense to me to choose tutoring as a career. Tutoring for the university was a particularly notable experience because I tutored students with learning disabilities, and this helped me become more flexible in my tutoring strategies. I am always ready and willing to learn new things. Coupled with the ability to learn things quickly, I can tutor anyone who needs help. I am very adaptable and patient. My priority is to make sure students understand the material, and it is important to me to make tutoring fun. I always make sure to ask students if they have any questions and if we are going at a good pace. I am flexible in my approach and I am happy as long as my students are happy and learning.

Mike Daub Profile
I have a master's degree in physics from Berkeley and two bachelor's degrees in mathematics and physics from Penn State. I have worked as a community college physics instructor and a high school math and physics teacher. And I currently tutor physics, calculus, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I am experienced in correcting the numerous problems students have while learning these subjects. I am available to tutor most afternoons and evenings. I prefer to tutor in a public place like Blasco Memorial Library in Erie, which has private rooms suitable for tutoring. Though, I am also open to tutoring in other places. My teaching philosophy is: For true understanding of the subject matter, the student must learn not only the proper problem solving techniques (or "how to do it"), but also the reasoning behind those techniques (or "why it works"). If the student errs when attempting to solve a problem but can explain the reasons for their actions, then we can correct both their logic and their action, and the student will learn. If the student can not explain the reasons for their actions, then, even if their answer is correct, the problem solving techniques appear mystical to the student, and the student will not learn. The key to making sure my tutoring is student-centered is communication, primarily from the student to the tutor. The student may not be willing to freely state their thoughts when learning in a classroom, because they fear looking foolish to their instructor and classmates. As their tutor, there is no penalty from me when they are incorrect. When the student makes an error, I correct their error, and they learn from it, so that they do not make the same error when it counts.

Robertson Academics Profile
Delivering Academic Results Any Time | Any Place www.RobertsonAcademics.com Robertson Academics provides comprehensive academic support to high school students and their families. In doing so, we are distinguished by the following characteristics: 1) 24 Hour, In-Person Response When academic difficulties occur, we will be there, regardless of the time or location. We are the only firm in Los Angeles that responds to academic emergencies in real time, typically within 30-45 minutes...even at 2 AM. 2) Personalized Instruction We work with parents to identify a student's strengths/weaknesses and create a customized plan for learning and achieving academic success. 3) Strong Communication After each lesson, parents are provided with an in-depth report of what was covered during the lesson. In addition, throughout the school year, we provide regular updates on the progress of our students. 4) Understanding Over "Knowing" We do NOT employ those who simply "know" enough of a subject to get by and then brush up their knowledge by reading the student's own textbook in the middle of a lesson. Instead, our instructors are experts in their subjects before the lesson begins. 5) Employee Verification All employees are subject to criminal background checks to ensure that student safety will never be an issue.

Mr. William D. Daniels Profile
I have enjoyed math all my life. I have a passion to teach math and raise the level of mathematical understanding of all my students. I am currently working on an MA in Education with an emphasis in high school and middle school math. This fall I will begin student teaching at the high school and middle school levels. I am committed to assisting students of all ages. I tutor math using a mediated learning approach which is proven to work extremely well with all levels of math. With mediated learning, students are guided to mathematical solutions with my assistance or mediation. This method of teaching helps learners construct critical math skills in a non-threatening environment using real-world examples as often as possible. The mediated learning method also gives students the skills needed to apply what they have learned to new learning experiences. In this way, learners are able to experience math in a way that is more meaningful to them. I am available most evenings Monday through Friday between 5pm and 9pm and on weekends by appointment. I can meet in person or over the internet.

I am a professional math teacher who has helped many struggling students and advanced students build a solid foundation for math understanding. Most of my students have achieved success, replacing frustration with confidence in their math ability. My love for tutoring math and the passion I bring to the art of teaching will make even the most anxious student feel at ease. I am a certified teacher in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in Elementary (1-6) and Middle School Mathematics (6-8). You will see how I provide a systematic program for academic support: First, I assess each child's strengths and weaknesses using a math intervention assessment. Then, I analyze gaps in understanding of foundational skills and aggressively target weak areas to build conceptual understanding of the following concepts: " Numbers " Addition/Subtraction " Multiplication " Time/Money " Fractions " Decimals " Area/Perimeter/Volume " Ratio/Proportion/Percent " Measurement " Graphing " Geometry You'll see the results of choosing an organized, articulate and self-motivated professional on both student achievement scores and immediate student engagement. Contact me at your earliest convenience to discuss how I can support your child deepening their mathematics content.

Mr. Vladislav Todorov Profile
Hi everyone, I am a Computer Science Senior in Ramapo College of New Jersey with a completed Math minor. In this space I would like to highlight some of my strong qualities. First of all, I am a strong and curious student determined accademically. My current GPA is 3.7, I participate in my college's Honors Program, research with 2 of my professors and I won a full scholarship for the course of my Bachelors' studies in Ramapo. I have had a strong inclination and interest in Math since a little child and chose Computer Science as my major because I consider there are a lot of creative ways to apply it in the programming field. I have taken AP level level Math since highschool, already completed my Math minor in Ramapo college and I have never gotten less than an A in a Math course until now. Then, I firmly believe that I am well-suited for a tutoring job. I possess the ability to explain the more difficult and abstract concepts effectively. Also, I am a very calm, positive and patient person. Furthermore I have always been interested in tutoring - my mother is a high school teacher, my father is a professor and my brother is an associate professor while doing his PhD, too - clearly my family is inclined towards teaching and accademics and I make no exception. In high school I used to tutor my friends Math and guitar (which I play since 8) for free and for fun and I see no reason not to take this activity to a more professional level. It goes without saying that I will accommodate the personal preferences of the student - I can tutor by their student book, find exercies and problems that I feel will help the student's progress myself, suggest extra readings, etc. Let me know if anyone needs some tutoring help:-)

Hi! Are you seeking compassionate flexible assistance from a thoroughly experienced instructor? Maybe we're a good match for each other... Here's a little about me. I enjoy working with people and I love the simple beauty of mathematics and most of all I enjoy connecting with my students to find the most efficient road to subject mastery. My teaching style is flexible, clear, gentle, and encouraging. I have over 10,000 hours of private and small group tutoring experience, and also have classroom experience teaching Advanced Algebra, Physics and Trig/PreCalculus at a great local private school in Jackson, Wyoming. I am in Maine long-term, and I would love to assist you in meeting your math achievement goals today. I began tutoring some of my classmates in advanced algebra when I was 15 years old, continuing to tutor as a side job while I studied Astrophysics at the University of Colorado in Boulder and also after moving to Jackson, Wyoming in 1999. In Jackson, I started a family and chose to tutor full time for the flexibility and fulfillment and quickly found myself with more students than I could handle alone. I founded a full-service tutoring center in Jackson several months after deciding to tutor full time on my own. For 8 years, I employed a team of 5-7 tutors and we served students of all ages in all subject areas while I focused on middle, high school, and college level math and science, standardized test preparation, and academic coaching to develop long term academic confidence and positive motivation in adolescents. I've helped "math haters" go on to choose PreMed, and "hopeless in math" students receive A+s on College Algebra finals. Thanks for visiting! Let me know what I can do for you , and I will look forward to assisting you in achieving your academic goals with confidence and enjoyment! Aubrey J.

Ms Jacalyn Nosek Profile
I have been tutoring professionally for more than 25 years. I have a teaching background that includes junior high school, high school, and college. In addition to the subjects listed above, i also teach study, organizational, and planning skills and writing skills. My educational background is in behavior biology, which means I have a different approach to learning. I look at learning as a physiological process involving sensory and motor nerves. Because of my background, I teach students using lots of color, diagrams, outlines, and other tools that make learning more natural and accomplished with less effort. I teach students to use all of their senses so that information is stored in multiple areas of the brain and then practice retrieval of the information until it is stored in both their short term and long term memories. I love learning and I love teaching and I believe both should be enjoyable. The techniques I use have had great success with my students. My goal is always to empower my students with the skills they need to be in control of their lives. Every academic area I teach is also infused with study and organizational skills. I teach students how to take big or small projects and break them down into a manageable set of progressive steps with self-imposed deadlines that keep them ahead of their class. When kids are in control of what is happening at school their self-confidence and attitude soar. Kids don't have to be scared and feeling hopeless, they can be successful and even leaders. My students go from C's, D's, and even F's to A's and B's. The first thing I do is diagnose the problem(s),learn how the student processes information, what's missing in his/her background, and what his/her teacher's expectations are for that class. Then I can create a plan of action that quickly produces positive results and gets the student into a pattern of growth and success. It's my job to teach each student in a "language" that they understand. I can explain concepts from many different directions. My broad and long experience has also taught me how and where students will make mistakes and go astray. I have tools and methods that help them avoid those problem areas. Teaching is my passion and gift. Whether it is math, science, social studies, study & organizational skills, or writing, if your son or daughter is ready to try some new approaches, I can help him/her succeed.

Adelle helped me immensely in my college biology course. I was having a hard time at first when I took it during the year. Then, last summer I retook the course and I got an A thanks to Adelle. She is a very knowledgeable, patient and helpful tutor. I felt like I was actually learning the material that seemed incredibly difficult before. If you need someone to teach you science look no further than Adelle. Adelle tutored my daughter in English for the ACT for a very short period of time and her score improved 7 points (equal to about a 140 point jump on the SAT)! I would wholeheartedly recommend Adelle as a tutor. She is thoroughly familiar with the subject matter, targets the student's weaknesses, is a great motivator and GETS RESULTS! I am so pleased with Adelle, that I plan to have her tutor my daughter in college level math over the summer. I graduated in 2007 from UC Berkeley. Double Major in Interdisciplinary Studies and Religious Studies. Also took Pre-Medical courses and I am currently applying to Medical School. I have a real passion for learning and inspiring, and it is my goal to have that same goal manifest itself in those I work with. My tutoring style is different from scholar to scholar. I pride myself of being able to quickly and correctly analyze a scholar's learning needs and style. I am very flexible for whatever the situation calls for (of course within reason). A little background on myself; I attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. I earned a full athletic scholarship to attend UC Berkeley. I spent 4 1/2 years in Berkeley completing my double majors, and have spent the last year and a half completing post-bacc studies to ready myself for the medical school application process. In my free time, I enjoy exercising, catching up with friends, exploring new hobbies, and getting involved with volunteering as much as I can.
