Christopher Sexton Profile
Christopher Sexton is the owner and teacher of Sexton Music Studio, a private strings lesson facility in the heart of Old Town Manassas. Teaching violin, viola, cello as well as bluegrass fiddle, Chris has been teaching private and group lessons for more than a dozen years through Contemporary Music Center in Chantilly, Pickers Supply in Fredericksburg, Foxes Music in Falls Church, American Children of SCORE in Warrenton, and through the Prince William and Fairfax County school systems. Now fully in his own studio, Chris is currently accepting new students for lessons in all skill levels. Chris excels in working with folks just starting out on an instrument, kids with challenging attention spans, home-schooled families, and middle and high schoolers looking for that added edge to compliment and build upon their orchestra classes. Christopher Sexton received his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance with a Minor in Voice from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music (http://www.su.edu/conservatory) in Winchester, Virginia in 1997. Chris followed that up with his Master of Music Pedagogy from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in 2010, with a 3.90 GPA. In addition to his formal education, Chris also attended the Suzuki Institute in 1998 for teacher training, and also was on the bluegrass faculty for Common Ground on the Hills bluegrass camp (sponsored by the DC Bluegrass Union) in 2007. An accomplished performer widely recognized in his field, Chris has been a member of the award-winning bluegrass band Nothin Fancy (http://www.nothinfancybluegrass.com) since 1998. Nothin Fancy has grown into a regional touring force, and are the three-times running Bluegrass Entertainers of the Year SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association) award winners for 2008, 2009 and 2010. All told, Nothin Fancy has been nominated individually or as a group for no fewer than 33 SPGBMA, IBMA, and GMA Dove Awards. Chris has been honored to perform and work with many of the best and brightest in bluegrass, classical and chamber music as well as contemporary rock and popular music, including Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Sam Bush, Patty Loveless, the Manassas Ballet Theater, and the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra. Chris and Sexton Music Studio is a proud member of the Manassas Old Town Business Association (OTBA), Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), the National Association for Music Education (MENC), the Manassas Art Guild, Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association (SPBGMA), International Bluegrass Music Association (IMBA), and the DC Bluegrass Union (DCBU). Patricia Ferrete Profile
I have always enjoyed tutoring, and my students have as well! My teaching is based on guiding students towards self-discovery and good study habits with only slight assistance in order to prepare them for working by themselves. However, I try my hardest to make the process fun and enjoyable for each student. At my age I believe students will be more comfortable and free to discuss their concerns. I have taken several advanced placement classes for college credit and have played violin for 7 years.

The Violin Connection Profile
Please go to www.ViolinConnection.com to read testimonials, read up on me, hear samples of me playing the violin, contact me directly, etc. Having over 21 years of experience with violin performance (performing as guest-artist with the Stockton Symphony and also performing in Carnegie Hall), I have been a private violin instructor since 1998 and have worked with all ages and levels in multiple styles including classical, improvisation, Irish/Celtic/fiddle, Christian worship band, and more. I've taught quite a range of people, from a pre-school aged beginner to an advanced violin teacher coming to me for lessons to fine-tune performance skills. Additionally, I've had a number of students come to me after quitting lessons with other "more seasoned" teachers (with multiple music degrees even up to the doctoral level) because they found these other violin teachers to be quite boring and also failing to produce the desired results. The REAL test of any music teacher is THE RESULTS: 1) How well do they actually play/perform? & 2) How well do they teach? Sadly, having degrees, awards, trophies, and certifications doesn't mean you can play well or teach well (at the risk of sounding conceited, I was outperforming & out-teaching my violin teachers at the age of 14...I mention this NOT to brag, but simply to prove my point that degrees don't really mean much when it comes to playing and teaching REAL music). In all truth, the best way to learn about a violin teacher is to experience what the teacher can do (i.e. hear them perform), and also to hear from the teacher's students. That said, I STRONGLY encourage you to visit my website on www.ViolinConnection.com where you can browse through some testimonials from many of my students (as well as parents) and also listen to samples of me playing the violin (there is over thirty minutes worth of samples where you can hear me playing the violin in different styles). I will let my students & my violin playing speak for themselves. =)

Ben F. Profile
Welcome to my listing! Tutoring is something I love doing, and something I have found I am very good at. I've got the academic credentials, sure, but what sets me apart is my ability to connect with each student, making them feel comfortable. Learning flows naturally from there. Feel free to ask for references. SAT Services: My formal tutoring background lies in SAT prep, both math and verbal. I have worked with, and seen improvements from students of all levels and backgrounds. I spent several years with tutoring agencies before moving into my own practice. However, my tutoring background extends much further, back to college and high school. In addition to my own mastery of the SAT, I have a proven track record of helping helping students achieve triple-digit score increases. I also offer academic tutoring in other subjects--Math (through advanced algebra), Spanish, Composition, and many others. On the music end, I am a classically-trained violinist. I teach beginning to intermediate students--the perfect complement for a student who plays in a school program, one who is just starting out (at any age), or for someone who simply wants to keep their chops up. I also teach fiddle--non-classical styles including bluegrass, blues, rock and folk--which emphasizes improvisation and playing by ear. I offer mandolin lessons as well. Hope to hear from you!
